History
- June 2016: Accessibility Advisory Board and Human Relations Commission merged
- August 2020: Adopted duties of the Retired Citizens Advisory Council
Purpose
- Ensure the benefits of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Title VI of the Civil Rights Act are extended to Arkansas City residents
- Provide advice to the City on accessibility issues
Membership
- 5 to 7 members
- Appointed by the Mayor with the consent of the City Commission
Requirements
- At least 2 members: persons with disabilities, or relatives/caretakers of persons with disabilities
- At least 2 members: age 60 or older
- Preference for those with experience serving people with disabilities, seniors, or with expertise in accessibility issues
