The City of Arkansas City will continue its annual fire hydrant flushing program on Monday, August 4, with work scheduled across south-central Arkansas City.
The Environmental Services Department will begin flushing in Section 3 and then proceed to Section 4. This portion of the program will affect a total of 165 hydrants — 17 in Section 3 and 148 in Section 4.
Section 3 includes the area south of Madison Avenue, between A Street and First Street, primarily along the South Summit Street corridor. Section 4 includes the area along and north of West Fifth Avenue, north to West Kansas Avenue, and east of First Street.
Flushing will take place between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, and is expected to continue through at least August 29.
During this time, water customers in the affected areas may experience temporary discoloration or low water pressure. Most discoloration can be resolved by running cold water through a faucet for a few minutes. If the issue persists, or if there is a noticeable drop in water pressure, please contact the Environmental Services Department at (620) 441-4480 during business hours or (620) 660-1115 after 5 p.m.
Residents are also advised not to wash laundry if water appears discolored, as it may cause permanent staining. If laundry is stained, keep the items wet and call one of the numbers above. A detergent designed to remove the stains will be delivered to your address.
“Thank you for your cooperation and patience during this annual fire hydrant flushing program,” said Environmental Services Superintendent Kyle Blubaugh.
