Core Duties

• Snow & ice removal
• Street resurfacing and sweeping
• Routine street and alley maintenance
• Care of 11 miles of dikes/levees
• Upkeep of 1,700 miles of canals and roadways each year

Street Maintenance & Repair

• Potholes: ~100 tons of asphalt used annually
• Gravel roads & alleys: Graded and re-graveled as needed
• Reconstruction: Repair base failures, overlay with asphalt or restore bricks

Street Sweeping

• Every street swept at least once yearly
• Downtown & major routes swept more often

Painting

• Center lines, lanes, and crosswalks repainted yearly
• ~300 gallons of paint and 1,900 lbs of glass beads used each year

Street Signs

• Maintains street names, speed limits, parking, and school zone signs
• Vandalism is the leading cause of replacements
