Fire Hydrant Flushing

Each summer, the City of Arkansas City conducts a community-wide fire hydrant flushing program. Crews systematically open hydrants across town to keep the water system in top condition.

This process helps in several important ways:

  • Improves water quality by clearing out built-up sediment in the lines.
  • Ensures hydrants are working properly and ready to provide strong water flow in case of a fire.
  • Maintains the overall reliability of the water distribution system.

The program is completed in 12 sections, and residents will be notified when crews are moving into their area. Updates are shared by phone, text, email, Facebook, and the City website.
