Arkansas City Launches Storm Cleanup Effort

The City of Arkansas City has begun cleanup efforts following the powerful storm that swept through the area early Saturday morning. With straight-line winds exceeding 70 mph, the storm caused extensive tree damage, scattered debris, and widespread power outages.

“We want to extend our sincere thanks to everyone who has shown patience, offered kind words, and stepped up to help neighbors in need,” said City Manager Randy Frazer. “That community spirit is what makes Arkansas City strong.”

Beginning Tuesday, June 10, city crews will begin collecting fallen tree limbs and storm debris from residential areas. The cleanup will start south of Madison Avenue and west of Summit Street, moving steadily eastward across the city over the following days.

“A full citywide cleanup may take up to two weeks,” Frazer added. “Please be patient as crews work through each area.”

What Residents Need to Know:
• Place all limbs and branches at the curb—not in the street or gutters.
• Do not bundle limbs; stack them neatly for easier collection.
• Keep debris clear of mailboxes, water meters, utility poles, and manholes.
• Crews will not enter private property or remove trees from yards.
• This cleanup does not follow regular trash pickup schedules.

Trash Cart Reminder:
If your trash cart was displaced during the storm, please contact the city to retrieve your polycart number. Residents are also encouraged to check around their neighborhood for misplaced carts.

Storm Response Efforts:
• City crews worked from 4 AM to 6 PM Saturday, clearing fallen trees and opening roadways.
• Evergy crews from Kansas City, El Dorado, Newton, Fort Scott, and other locations have joined local teams to help restore power and assist with recovery efforts.

“We appreciate your continued cooperation as we work to restore Arkansas City,” Frazer said. “Thank you for helping keep our crews safe and the recovery process moving forward.”
