Two arrested in traffic stop

The Arkansas City Police Department arrested two individuals following a routine traffic stop in the 1100 block of West Elm on Monday, December 11, 2023.

At approximately 11:48 p.m., an Arkansas City Police Officer observed a Chevrolet pickup committing a traffic violation. The driver, Chaz Edward Alcorn, 35, Arkansas City, was found to have a suspended driver's license, an expired tag, and no proof of insurance.

Further investigation revealed an active Kiowa County, Kansas District Court Warrant for Alcorn's probation violation as well as possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a firearm.

Elia Rodriguez, 38, Arkansas City, a passenger in the vehicle, was also detained. Subsequent searches conducted by officers revealed a handgun, drug paraphernalia, and a baggie containing a substance believed to be methamphetamine.

Both suspects were transported to the Cowley County Jail, where they are currently held. Alcorn's bond is $12,300, while Rodriguez's is $10,500.

A court of law determines a suspect's guilt or innocence.
