Training Opportunities

The Arkansas City Police Department is committed to providing the best possible training for those chosen to Protect and serve the Citizens of Arkansas City.  As required by State Law, all newly hired Police Officers attended Training at the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center (KLETC) for 14 weeks.

On top of the requirements of KLETC, all newly hired officers of ACPD complete an in house Field Training Program which consists of 3 training Phases and an observation period.  These training phases provide on the job training which focus on the skills taught at KLETC and dedicate specific one-on-one training in areas normally encountered by Officers.

In total officers receive approximately 520 hours of additional training during FTO on top of that minimally required by KLETC. The Arkansas City Police Department is dedicated to providing the best up to date training on police practices.

Per state statue, sworn officers must complete 40 hours of continued education per year. Officers are able to choose from a wide range of training opportunities each year. Some of this training is done in house, by our own certified staff.

In-house training opportunities include:

  • Field test sobriety test refresher training
  • Quarterly firearms training
  • Quarterly open range opportunities
  • Taser training
  • Controlled Force training
  • Search warrant and entry scenario training
  • Anti-Bias training
  • Stop Stick training
  • Leadership training
  • Supervisory training
  • CPR certification
  • Narcan Training
  • Ethics
  • Use of Force and De-escalation
