Man transported to hospital on May 19 with lower-leg dog bite
Dog’s owner cited in Municipal Court; dog was on a leash during the incident
ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. (May 21, 2020) — The Arkansas City Police Department cited the owner of a dog May 19 after it allegedly bit a pedestrian along a walking trail in southwest Arkansas City.
Officers were dispatched about 6:11 p.m. May 19 to the walking trail at Veterans Memorial Lake, located at 1401 S. Sixth St., for a report of a dog bite.
They identified the victim as a 53-year-old Arkansas City man who was found along the trail.
Police administered first aid for an injury to the man’s lower right leg. He later was transported by private vehicle to South Central Kansas Medical Center for further treatment.
The owner of the dog remained at the scene and spoke with officers. They learned the dog was on a leash when the incident occurred and the owner had current proof of the dog’s vaccination.
The owner was cited for a vicious or biting dog through Arkansas City Municipal Court. The dog was not impounded.
A defendant’s guilt or innocence is to be determined by a court of law.
