Arkansas City Police Department badgeARKANSAS CITY, Kan. (May 20, 2020) The Arkansas City Police Department on May 19 investigated a minor-injury accident in which a vehicle was struck by a bicycle, but issued no citations.

Officers responded about 6:26 p.m. May 19 to the intersection of Fifth Street and Maple Avenue for a report of an accident involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

They determined that a sport utility vehicle westbound on Maple Avenue had apparently been struck by a bicycle being ridden southbound on Fifth Street by a 14-year-old Arkansas City female.

The bicyclist was evaluated by the Arkansas City Fire-EMS Department and found to have minor injuries. She later was transported by private vehicle to South Central Kansas Medical Center.

The 19-year-old male driver of the SUV and his passenger were not injured in the collision.

No citations were issued in connection with this accident after police determined the SUV had the right-of-way at the intersection and the bicyclist had failed to stop or yield at the intersection.
