Four county residents cited early Feb. 19 for disorderly conduct

Barton also arrested on suspicion of battery after allegedly deploying Taser

Arkansas City Police Department badgeThe Arkansas City Police Department arrested four Cowley County women Feb. 19 in connection with a disturbance during which a Taser was deployed.

Towanda Kay Barton, 45, and Aubrey Cowdin, 20, both of Winfield, as well as Hailey Holmes, 19, and Autumn Williams, 18, both of Arkansas City, all were cited for disorderly conduct.

Barton also was arrested on suspicion of one count of misdemeanor battery.

She was transported to and booked into the Cowley County Jail in lieu of $100 bond through Arkansas City Municipal Court.

Barton since has posted bond and been released.

Officers were dispatched about 1 a.m. Feb. 19 for a possible disturbance in the area of First Street and Linden Avenue in which an individual reportedly had been Tased by one of the people involved.

An officer contacted all of the parties involved and determined there had been an ongoing dispute among Cowdin, Holmes, Williams and a fifth individual, who was not arrested.

Cowdin, Holmes and Williams arrived at a residence in a pickup truck, while the fifth person arrived in a van belonging to Barton, his mother. An altercation ensued and one of the victims was Tased.

A defendant’s guilt or innocence is to be determined by a court of law.
