The Comprehensive Plan of Arkansas City was last updated in 2003, the City has been working over the past year to develop a new Comprehensive Plan. A Steering Committee was formed to develop the new plan and their final plan was then forwarded to the Planning Commission. The Planning Commission held multiple study sessions to discuss the content and also held a public hearing to finalize the document. On November 12, 2013, the Planning Commission recommended by resolution to the City Commission that they adopt the Comprehensive Plan. After multiple citizens expressed concerns about extraterritorial zoning, the recommendations for this were removed from the Plan and it was adopted by the City Commission on March 4, 2014.
UPDATE: The Planning Commission has recently started an update to the Comprehensive Plan. The update will take place throughout 2021 and likely be adopted towards the end of 2021.
