Battery leads to self-inflicted shooting July 10; two men injured
Both incidents occurred on South First Street; gunshot victim hospitalized
Two Arkansas City men were transported to South Central Kansas Medical Center on July 10 after a battery and self-inflicted shooting in southwest Arkansas City.
The victims are 29 and 31.
One victim was transported to SCKMC with injuries to his face after a physical disturbance in the 400 block of South First Street. He has been treated and released.
The other victim sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was transferred to a Wichita hospital.
Police and the Arkansas City Fire-EMS Department (ACFD) responded about 8:20 p.m. to the physical disturbance.
The suspect in that incident had left the residence prior to their arrival.
As police were investigating the disturbance, another emergency was reported in the 1000 block of South First Street.
Once they responded, they learned the two separate incidents actually were related.
It was determined that the suspect in the disturbance had left the first residence and traveled to the second residence, where he apparently had shot himself.
ACFD also responded to this emergency.
Police still are conducting an investigation of these two incidents.
Anyone with additional information about either incident is asked to call the Arkansas City Police Department at (620) 441-4444.
