Ark City man arrested May 17 on suspicion of burglary, theft
Irvin accused of taking cash from victim’s wallet, purse inside parked vehicle
The Arkansas City Police Department arrested an Arkansas City man May 17 in connection with the theft of cash from a woman’s purse.
Joseph Benjamin Irvin, 32, was arrested on suspicion of burglary and theft. He was transported to and booked into the Cowley County Jail in lieu of $4,000 bond through Cowley County District Court in Arkansas City.
Irvin since has posted bond and been released.
Police were dispatched at 10:48 a.m. May 17 for a report of burglary and theft from a vehicle parked in the west alley in the 100 block of South Summit Street.
Officers contacted the victim, a 49-year-old Arkansas City woman, who reported that while her car was parked in the alley, Irvin allegedly removed her wallet from her purse located inside the vehicle.
The wallet was located near the car, but money was missing from it.
Irvin subsequently was identified as a suspect and taken into custody. The missing money later was recovered near the scene of the incident.
This investigation is ongoing and other suspects may be identified later.
