Additional Information

EMT and MICT medical training is not provided during the firefighter academy, however, and as stated above, the distance requirement and a minimum of an EMT certification are required at the time of application or you will be disqualified from further consideration.

A minimum of an MICT Certification is an absolute must if you want to be considered for a full time position with the Arkansas City Fire/EMS Department while participating in the Reserve Program.

Successful applicants will receive an invitation letter to join the Arkansas City Fire/EMS Reserve Program, upon meeting all eligibility requirements as listed above. At that time, you will be required to provide a drug/alcohol screening and a physical contingencies test.

Once all requirements have been met, you may begin the process of obtaining your PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), station uniform and participating in scheduled ride out time while you are waiting for the next upcoming academy date.

The academy is a 12 to 16 week intense, firefighter-training program. Upon completion of the academy, candidates will complete a written and practical test through the Kansas Fire & Rescue Training Institute for certification as a Firefighter 1 and Hazardous Materials Operations.

All participants in the Firefighter Reserve program will be expected to attend monthly training, which is held on the last Saturday of each month unless otherwise revised, and to also participate in station staffing for a minimum of 12 hours per month. Participation in other activities such as the MDA Boot Drive, Fire Prevention Week, EMS Week and other activities as they arise are also encouraged.
