Niles utilized her undergraduate degree in biology and joined the environmental law department of one of Kansas City's major law firms. During her first year of practice, Tamara began working with the construction and engineering and complex commercial litigation groups, and eventually her practice focused solely on these two areas. In March of 2005, Tamara and her husband Lance, a native of Arkansas City, had the opportunity to return to their small town roots. Tamara accepted the position of City Attorney, where she prosecutes offenders in Municipal Court and provides counsel to the City Commission. Tamara also founded her own law practice in downtown Arkansas City.
